We arrived in Fuengirola this afternoon at around 2 after flying from Chicago to Madrid and then to Malaga, followed by the train ride to Fuengirola. Everyone is exhausted and looking forward to a goood night of SLEEP! Continue to pray for safety and the upcoming campaign, as the rest of the volunteers will be arriving tomorrow. We have enjoyed a lot of great food and are excited to get working tomorrow!

A Blog is Born!

Congratulations! You've made it to the World Impact Spain Blog! Whether by accident or you're actually following us on our trip, you're probably going to finish reading this post :) My hope for this blog is to update it a few more times before we leave and then daily in Spain, to let you all know what we're up to. But enough chit chat, here's a little bit about our team. A trip with 11 students 4 leaders, 16 days in Fuengirola Spain, Decision Spain Campaign, a mime, a hip hop dance, street evangelism, and of course a dramatically different culture... It's gonna be exciting.
I asked everyone on the team a few questions in order for you to get to know who exactly you'll be reading about these next few weeks. The questions: What's your name? What superpower do you dream of having? And finally, what are your excitements and hopes for the trip? The answers... well you'll see just how different everyone is on our team!
LEADERS:
Ms. Courtney
- Superpower- Blink my eyes and be anywhere in the world.
- Excitements/ Hopes- I am thankful to have the opportunity to be a part of this mission trip to Spain. I hope to deepen my relationship with the Lord, develop relationships with students and leaders on the team, serve those that we will meet, share the gospel with them and hopefully make an impact for the Lord through our efforts.
Mr. Kevin
- Superpower- I would breathe like a fish in water and fly high as an eagle.
- Excitements/ Hopes- Spreading the Word of God, ad getting reacquainted with people I met back in '06.
- Superpower- If I could have a superpower I'd like to have the ability to understand any language instantaneously.
- Excitements/ Hopes- I think I'm most looking forward to seeing how the Lord works as we team up with the Spanish believers to reach out to the town of Fuengirola and praying that as a unified team, we'll demonstrate the power of the gospel and be used by the Lord to share the gospel with those who are ready to hear.
Mr. Brian
- Superpower- Teleportation
- Excitements/ Hopes- Seeing the different ways in which God works through the gifts he's given the members of our team; experiencing Spanish culture and cuisine.
STUDENTS:
Sarah
- Superpower- I wish I could fly. End of story.
- Excitements/ Hopes- I'm excited to see what God has in store for our team and the Spanish locals; I am most excited to be partnering in the Gospel with the Spanish teens who don't have the same type of Christian community that we have here in Wheaton, and hopefully, to be an encouragement to them.
Katie
- Superpower- Shape shifter... that would be pretty sweet!
- Excitements/ Hopes- Being able to share the Gospel openly with the people in Fuengirola. I hope everything just goes smoothly and well.
Tate
- Superpower- I would undoubtedly want to fly.
- Excitements/ Hopes- I'm hoping to not only develop great relationships with the Spaniards, but more importantly to use those relationships to introduce and present the Gospel to the town of Fuengirola.
Brigitta
- Superpower- Maybe teleportation or I'd be like Elastigirl from the Incredibles.
- Excitements/ Hopes- I'm excited for this trip to see what God is going to do in Spain through a bunch of high school students!
Michael
- Superpower- Flying would be cool, as well as having super-sonic hearing.
- Excitements/ Hopes- I am really excited to be able to share my faith and serve the community. I also am excited to get to know everyone on our team better while serving Christ. And, it'll be cool to go to Europe.
Lauren
- Superpower- I want to be able to FLY! How legit would that be?
- Excitements/ Hopes- To reach those in Spain and have God working in both theirs and our lives while we are there and after we leave. I want to be able to push myself out of my comfort zone and really make a difference and have a servants heart while doing so. Also, I would like to learn more about the Spanish culture.
Marilyn
- Superpower- Invisibility, no doubt.
- Excitements/ Hopes- I'm looking forward to working with and getting to know our team better as well as the Spaniards who we will be working side by side with. I'm excited to see how God will use this Decision Spain campaign in Fuengirola to further His kingdom, especially with the beginning of the first Evangelical Christian church in the town. On a different note, I'm really excited to be immersed in a Spanish- speaking environment :)
Trevor
- Superpower- To fly.
- Excitements/ Hopes- To grow in faith, minister to others, and to get to know both the people on our team and those in Spain better.
John- Marvin
- Superpower- If I had one superpower it would be Technopathy; which, according to Wikipedia, means "Ability to manipulate technology. Manifested as a special form of electrical/ telekinetic manipulation, a special form of "morphing" which allows physical interaction with machines, or even a psychic ability that allows for mental interface with computer data." Yep, I actually researched.
- Excitements/ Hopes- I'm excited for many things, but I'm especially happy that I will be returning to Spain after being away for almost 4 years. It will be good to be back and be able to use my Spanish. Also, I think it is a fantastic ministry opportunity that has the potential to change many lives.
Rebecca
- Superpower- Super speed because I'm always running late :)
- Excitements/ Hopes- Where do I start? Excited to travel and experience a different culture, to make new friends both American and Spanish, and to see God working through everybody there.
Jamison
- Superpower- I would love to be able to fly and teleport to wherever I want!
- Excitements/ Hopes- I'm really excited to be going to the birthplace of the Spanish language! I want to improve my spanish by speaking it DAILY with the Spaniards. I am also looking forward to getting to know my team better and seeing them "shine" through their talents, during the trip. My hopes? That God uses us to advance his kingdom and that my team will be a blessing to those we work with. And of course that travel goes smoothly!
So there you have it! A brief little encounter with our team and a bit of who we are. I know our team is getting more and more excited as our departure date draws closer and closer! Please pray for us these next few weeks as we continue to prepare: for our mime and hip hop dance as we practice over and over... and over. For everyone on the team, that we would draw closer to God throughout our time of preparation, and finally that when the time to travel comes, we are safe and have no complications. Your prayers are appreciated. Keep following us as I'm sure I'll have much to report!
